Morning Routines
When you wake up early, you’re home all day and don’t have a typical schedule, it can be hard to stay focused/productive. That’s something I noticed these past few years — I would find myself watching tv longer, having 3 cups of coffee by 10 am, staying in my pj’s until noon, snacking more often, watching tv again, etc. I was starting to feel unmotivated, unproductive and unfulfilled.
Something needed to change.
I decided to start some new morning habits and I really think they are making a difference in my mindset. These are simple things that keep me grounded and aligned to have a better day.
— Drink warm lemon water first. Also eat something before or with coffee. And only drink one cup in the morning!
— No phone! I don’t look at my phone for 30-60 mins after waking up. I don’t need that outside energy (usually negative posts and over stimulating videos) that early in the day.
— Read. I haven’t always loved reading, so it’s something I’ve been trying to do more of. Even if it’s just a few pages, I try to read a little bit each morning while drinking my lemon water.
— Write down 1 or 2 goals/tasks for the day I want to accomplish that day.
— Movement. I love my daily walks - usually in the morning but really anytime! Walking is like my form of meditation where I can clear my mind, think, pray or listen to a podcast.
— Get ready! My skincare routines, both morning and night have slowly become a favorite of mine! But taking a few minutes in the morning to get ready (a simple face & changing out of pj’s) just makes me feel more productive for the day!
Pretty normal things, but if don’t do them, my day feels slightly off — they really help set my mind up for the day.
